Known as Sister Cecilia, the second oldest nun, Marie was an American-born Italian supercentenarian who was the oldest US citizen after the death of Susannah Mashatt Jones. She held the record until she died in 2017. She was also the oldest living person in Italy at the time of her death. She was born in the city of Manchester in New Hampshire, USA.

She decided to be a nun pretty early on in life and she soon moved to Canada and later France, where she became an art and music teacher. It was after her stint in France when she decided to settle in Rome in 1958. She gained popularity in 2008 when at age 106 she became one of the oldest voters voting for Obama who won the elections. She later passed away at age 115 years, 110 days in 2017.
