Kama Chinen
Chinen was born in May 1895 in Okinawa, Japan, and died in May 2010, 8 days before her 115th birthday at the age of 114 years, 357 days. She was the oldest known living person in Okinawa from 2006, after the death of Nahe Oshiro. At the time of her death, she was the 27th oldest verified person ever, the 2nd oldest verified Japanese person ever, and the oldest verified person ever from Okinawa.

Chinen was the last documented person born in 1895, moreover, after Gertrude Baines’ death in September 2009, she became the oldest living person in the world. Kama Chinen enjoyed spending her time in nature and being outside before being confined to a wheelchair. Chinen’s’ death was very closely guarded by her family, so much so that her name was not given in many Japanese newspaper reports about her death.
