I Pledge Allegiance…
Here’s another thing that many Americans take for granted and don’t think too hard about. The Pledge of Allegiance is done in most public schools across the country, as well as before Congressional sessions and other government meetings. It’s something most American kids grew up reciting at the beginning of each school day, and many Europeans think it’s… unique.

To be fair, the Pledge of Allegiance harkens back to when patriotism was a bigger deal in American culture, and it seems to have stuck around in our modern-day. Although it’s less common, many states still require it to be recited in schools once a day. This level of patriotism is just not as common in Europe, which is why some non-Americans think it’s just plain weird and peacocky.
