Surf’s Up, Dude
The “surfer dude” accent, as made famous by Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, is most associated with Southern California beach culture. The stereotype for this way of speaking involves heavy use of the words “dude” and “gnarly,” as well as a really drawn-out way of talking. No one actually talks like this in real life though, right?
According to this person, the surfer dude accent isn’t a Hollywood fiction, but it’s real! They encountered someone who spoke exactly the way they had heard on TV and in movies. This way of talking is pretty common among people who are into surf culture. Even if it’s not as exaggerated as certain characters make it out to be, it does exist and is unique to the Southern California area.
