The Lowly Garbage Disposal
Garbage disposal is a common feature of any American kitchen. It’s meant to shred up pieces of food waste into tiny pieces so your pipes won’t get clogged when they go down the sink. This is something we don’t think too much about, as it’s so commonplace. However, for people outside of the U.S., it’s a wild concept.

Most household kitchens in other countries do not have garbage disposals installed, and some countries have even banned them as they can be dangerous. You’d be hard-pressed to find one outside of an industrial kitchen in most countries! It’s viewed as something of a luxury or a completely unnecessary feature, depending on who you ask.
