Trick-or-treat
Imagine masked strangers knocking on your door at night. When you open the door, everyone is dressed in a disguise, demanding you hand out free candy. Does this sound weird to you, or is it just a normal Halloween? Trick-or-treating is an integral part of Halloween, but it can sound super strange when described to someone outside the United States.
This person’s friend experienced culture shock during their first American Halloween, as they had never experienced trick-or-treating. While the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and parts of Mexico have trick-or-treating traditions for Halloween, other countries have different, equally fun traditions. Hopefully, this person’s friend got some free candy out of the experience.
