Soda Jerk
Soda Jerker might sound better than the shorter term “Soda Jerk.” In today’s world, a soda jerk would be called a bartender of sorts. The Soda Jerk was the person who poured drinks – mostly sodas and light drinks – at drugstores. Much like the bartender job in today’s world, the trade was sought after mostly buy young people, since it allowed them to mingle and meet new people.
The soda jerk also operated ice cream machines. Unlike today’s bartenders or store clerks, the Soda Jerks were required to wear a uniform, which included a bow tie and a paper hat. As fast food chains started to emerge around the countries, people no longer sought drinks and ice cream at drugstores, and so this occupation disappeared from the world, slowly but surely.
