Switchboard Operators
Switchboard Operators aren’t as obsolete as some of the other jobs on the list. In fact, they were hired throughout the 20th century, when telephone switchboards were still popular. The switchboard connects circuits of telephones in order to make phone calls, and the operators were the ones who enabled people to make phone calls. It was quite an important job, really, although a boring one.
As you can imagine, this wasn’t the most exciting job in the world, as it meant sitting all day in the same room, answering questions, and operating the machine, and it required quite a bit of patience. The switchboard operators were around until direct dialing and automatic systems were available, putting an end to this occupation.
